Glycolic peels? QUICK question?

So I basically bought a glycolic peels for my old acne marks. Along with the peel I noticed that the pH neutralizer was recommened so I bought that as well. I was wondering how to use glycolic peels and the neutralizer skin pH balancer. Is there a certain step or process? How much should i put on my face and how often should I do it? THANKS a bunch in advance

  1. Is there no instruction that came with the products? Any company that does not provide instructions with their products is one you want to avoid. What brand is this? You do NOT need a pH balancer. Such product is a joke and a waste of your money. Why? You can neutralize any acid with plain water. Chemistry! I suggest that you apply your chemical peel on a Friday night after a shower so you have the weekend to let your skin heal if any acute inflammation occurs. Steps: 1) Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser (one without harsh detergent, fragrance, and dyes). Wash your hand with anti-bacterial hand wash, if available. 2) This is optional, but you can wipe your face or area of your skin you want to apply the peel with rubbing alcohol (e.g., ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol). The alcohol will not only remove the surface oil to enhance the peel penetration but also kill bacteria. This step is optional because A) you can be sensitive to alcohol B) removing the surface sebum can make your peel more irritating. There are trade-offs you need to take into consideration. 3) Now, apply the chemical peel either A) 1-2 finger(s) (index or middle is good) B) Q-tip (this take method takes longer for larger areas, but it is very good for precise application) C) fan-brush (you can buy one at any arts retailer. I prefer using fingers. The maximum time you want the peel to be on your skin depends on the strength of the peel. The higher the concentration, the lower the time you want to leave it on to prevent side-effects. For beginners, leave it on for 30 seconds to 1 minute. How much your apply depend on your tolerance to the acid. If you are unfamiliar with the acid, you should only apply one thin and even coat of the peel. As you build your tolerance, you can double the application coats. NOTE: More coats of peel do not always translate into better results. Think about the possible side effects including burning, itching, redness, etc. I highly recommend going slow and be patient with your goals. I also recommend separating your chemical peel frequency to once a month for beginner if not once every two months. As you build your tolerance, you can go as far as twice per month, just take the side effects into consideration. Do not get neurotic with it. ====== Glycolic acid peels will NOT remove depressed acne scars such as boxcar, ice picks, rolling, etc. You need stronger peels for that like TCA cross peel. TCA is tricholoroacetic acid and it is a medium depth peel; it is very strong and it has very obvious side effect. Misuse can lead to acute inflammation or even more scarring. What proper use of glycolic acid peel can do is help with hyperpigmentation, minor surface scars, wrinkles, texture, and tone over a series of treatments. Lastly, your chemical peels will be all in vain if you do not wear sunscreen. You must wear sunscreen everyday regardless of sex, age, weather, skin color, etc and remember to reapply every 2 hours to obtain optimal sun protection. Make sure you have a strong daily skin care regimen to assist with the healing and enhancement of the results that chemical peel gives you. Contact me if you want to know more about skin care.
