Vodka for anti-aging?

http://www2.oprah.com/health/oz/slide/20071101/oz_20071101_350_113.jhtml Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen's anti-aging plan isn't about the number of candles on your birthday cake. They say it's all about the quality of life. "What we really want is everyone to die young…at any age," Dr. Oz says. "We have tons of data now that can dramatically change our life expectancy and maintain the vigor we have today." Though they haven't found the fountain of youth, Dr. Oz says they have discovered a few secrets to aging well. Before you resort to Botox or plastic surgery, he suggests giving these natural anti-aging remedies a try. One is a Russian elixir that people in Siberia have been drinking for thousands of years. This drink is made with Rhodiola rosea, a plant that grows in cold climates, and vodka. "This [drink] stimulates dopamine and serotonin," Dr. Oz says. "It has an influence on sexuality. It also helps immune function." With millions of plant species on earth, the possibilities are seemingly endless. "Some of the biggest clues to how we age more beautifully come from the plant kingdom," Dr. Oz says. "If we can take clues from there, and now with modern science understand the whys, it begins to make sense for all of us."

  1. You can't stop aging, and you're going to die one day! sorry, didn't mean to burst your lil bubble!
  2. I like an occasional drink or two. But I doubt that any type of alcohol promotes youthfulness. Try green and black tea.
  3. Dr. Mehmet Oz was on The Oprah Winfrey Show (November 1, 2007) and he had prepared the herb rhodiola rosea and vodka as an adaptogenic tonic for stress. "This [drink] stimulates dopamine and serotonin," Dr. Oz says. "It has an influence on sexuality. It also helps immune function." In ADAPTOGENS (chapter on Adaptogens as Food), we discuss how this medicinal alcoholic tonic is prepared in present-day Ukraine. It is called nastojka and is prepared by mixing 80 proof vodka with an equal weight of fresh rhodiola and allowing the mixture to stand for a few weeks. Only a few teaspoonfuls should be consumed daily. Rhodiola rosea can also be taken in tablets and is best consumed on an empty stomach before breakfast. Rhodiola has broad-reaching benefits -- it helps to balance blood sugar levels, protect the heart and reduce stress. It is a cooling adaptogen and unlikely to cause overstimulation.
  4. What are all the ingredients and what are the amounts of the ingredients to mix it properly? Does anyone know?
  5. Vodka is actually on my anti-inflammation diet. The kicker is that I may not have any mixers with it. ouch! takes some getting used to, but a sprig of lemon balm ( in the mint family) helps. I was having lots of inflammation and pain caused by carbohydrates (sugar). After my doc went through the list of all the "can't haves" I said "It sounds like I can only have meat, vegtables and vodka!" He said yes, but forget the mixers. Straight alcohol (vodka) metabilizes to fat and not sugar. At 51, I'm pain and wrinkle free and often thought to be 15 years younger. I have always been athletic and eaten fairly healthy, I am outside a lot and wear sunscreen and cover up when practical.
