- I don't know. How long DOES it take to grow shrooms (whatever that is) on orange peels and toothpaste? Is this like a Knock Knock joke?
- I don't think he actually grew shrooms. He probably just grew mold, which would make him sick and possibly give him a "high." It's going to depend on where he was storing them to answer how long it took mold to grow. My guess would be a few days to a few weeks.
- Depending on the type of fungi he was trying to cultivate, it could take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to get fully mature caps from spores. He would need a very sterile environment to do this. You can purchase grow logs that have mushrooms already prepared on them. This method can provide edible caps in 2 weeks. But with all that said, toothpaste and orange peels? Neither of those items will produce any kind of edible fungi. Perhaps a mold.
- well google has Results 1 - 10 of about 2,680 for orange peels and shrooms. he's probably getting high off the fungus and not growing shrooms
- What ? Toothpaste and orange peels? Never heard of that before . Not sure how mushrooms would grow in toothpaste . Gotta love the internet because im sure that is where he found that ridiculous idea.
- Like the others have said, this won't grow "shrooms." He'd need spores for the type of "magic mushroom" he wanted to grow, and they wouldn't likley do well in toothpaste. That said, I understand that the point is that your son was trying to get high off of this concoction, causing you concern. Moldy oranges with toothpaste aren't likely to get anyone high, they might make him sick. Of course the bigger issue is that you want to know how long your son has been exhibiting drug-seeking behavior. Unfortunately, I don't think the orange peel & toothpaste combo is going to get you much information to this end. If his were moldy, you might guess that he prepared the concoction a couple of weeks before they were found, for whatever that's worth. Finding out how long this has been going on, and what real drugs, if any, he may have been doing is going to take getting him to communicate it to you, perhaps via some well-placed snooping if he's not going to be forthcoming about it. You might call an AA or NA (or perhaps alanon) and ask them for some referrals to sources of information about talking to your son about drugs. Anyway, here's a snippet from an article on erowid.org about the toothpaste oranges issue: "... this is a myth. We've read a couple of different stories about this one. One is that you're supposed to smoke the resulting concoction, the other involves letting mold grow on the combo which you then put on blotter. There's little doubt that smoking or eating such a thing might make you feel funny, sick...and possibly quite silly. :) But there's no pharmacological properties of orange peels or toothpaste which would cause significant psychoactive effects when smoked or eaten. At least not any more than one might expect from smoking random crap out of the cupboard or off moldy food. Many random substances (grass clippings, mold, random plants or spices etc) will produce odd lightheaded feelings if smoked and/or odd stomach sensations if ingested. Most people consider these sorts of experiences unpleasant and very little like the feelings produced by recreationally used psychoactive plants or chemicals."
