How many orange peels should i put in a compost pile?

Public Comments

  1. All of them. I do it all the time :)
  2. You can put any amount of vegetable and fruit trimmings into the compost. Coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells, dead flowers we had on the table, etc. We put it all in and don't worry about how much of anything. Eventually it all balances out. Well, ours is probably a bit acidic due to all the coffee.
  3. You can put as much as you would like just remember it does take a long time for the orange peels to break down enough. So make more time for that before you use it.
  4. Put them all in.Keep a balance of greens, and browns and a little organic matter from the barn and it will cook up this summer into blackgold.
  5. as many as you have
  6. I would say none. Orange Oil is a contact killer for insects used by Organic Gardeners. I would say if it killed insects it would also kill the micro organisms in the compost.
  7. You should have a good balance of green and brown matter in a compost pile. Put in as many orange peels as you like (green matter), but balance it out with shredded paper or dead leaves. Your pile should contain 4 parts brown matter to 1 part green matter: Brown Matter: Dead leaves Shredded paper or newspaper Brown cardboard Small twigs Coffee grounds Green Matter: Fruit and vegetable scraps Tea leaves and bags Egg shells Weeds, green leaves, and plants Grass clippings
