How painful are chemical peels?

When was 12 years old I had really bad acne, and now I have acne scarring. I want to get rid of it, and people have told me to do a chemical peel. They sound really painful, do they work and how painful are they?

1. Chemical peels are are quite last-resort. These are usually for people with wrinkles or even burnt skin. Look up laser treatment, there are many laser treatments that can remove scars by promoting skin regrowth instead of peeling a layer of skin off. If you do have serious deep acne scarring, a chemical peel may be best, in which case they are not extremely painful. It may just feel like sunburn, but you may not want to go outside for a few days/weeks because your skin literally hangs from your face and it looks horrific (depending on how powerful the peel is). You will also have huge increase in oil production in your skin for the first week but the results are fantastic. Good luck!
