Is it ok to eat banana peels?

I was wondering if it is dangerous to eat banana peels, since most other fruit has a peel that is ok to eat. Thanks a lot!

  1. why not? gorillas do it.
  2. I'm not quite sure but i dont think you can
  3. Yes it is. i suppose the taste or texture wouldn't be particularly appetizing though... lol. However, it is edible. i've heard that some people take the peel clean it well. and put it in a blender to make drinks with it. but of course, they wait until the peel itself is riped and not when it's just yellow. i've never tired though.
  4. i dont think so i did it once their not so bad but not so good either :P
  5. Why would you want to? It's probably okat though...only one way to know for sure!
  6. it doesnt tase yummy but it has a lot of nutrients and healthy stuff in it
  7. yea, you can also eat orange peels
  8. LOL! DANGEROUS? NOT EVEN CLOSE. BUT THEY DON'T TASTE SO GOOD. BUT NOT POISONOUS OR ANYTHING. OH YEAH, AND DIDYA KNOW? IF YOU PEEL A BANANA FROM THE BOTTOM, INSTEAD OF THE TOP, THERE WON'T BE ANY OF THOSE 'STRINGY THINGS' ON IT... IT'S HOW THE CHIMPS DO IT!
  9. no that is not such a good idea would you eat a lemon peel?
  10. I would advise against it, unless its been cleaned VERY well. After all, the skin of the fruit is what gets sprayed with incecticides and other harmful chemicals while they are still growing. If I were you, I would just eat the banana itself and leave the skin for the garbage.
  11. NOOOO, have you no food..........maybe you could smoke them instead!!!!
  12. why would u wanna eat banana peels!!! its dangerous to eat them and they have a bad taste so dont even think of eating them!
  13. I love bananas and eat two a-day (at the very least!) I have never thought about peeling the banana from the bottom instead of the top. Tomorrow I'm going to try it to see if it is better. Who knows, you may have started something.
  14. It won't kill you, but it doesn't taste too good
  15. I think so but you shouldnt eat too many
  16. They are edible (although I havn't tried it) but there are lots of recipes out there using them. Check this out: http://www.opensourcefood.com/people/norecipes/recipes/banana-peel-steamed-pork-and-rice

  18. YES! eat bananna peels! it's full of nutrition AND its not dangerous to eat. In some cultures they cut the bannana peels and fry them! Baking bannana peels with curries and sauces are good additions too! Bannana peels are full of fibre and might taste great... i dont know, i havent tasted them but dont EVER eat tomato leaves, theyre posionous!
  19. May be.In Asian cooking banana blossoms is part of their culinary expertise too.
  20. Banana peels are not toxic, but rather ghastly to eat. Best cut them up and throw them in the compost heap or feed your bird's nest or staghorn fern with them. Brooke M, that peeling story is just an old wives' tale - I've tried it many times and it simply doesn't work!
