why do dried orange peels burn so erratically?

im ean they pop and spark and flash but burn like insense... smoulder i guess. it's called science dudes... ummm discovery by process of expirimentation...

  2. Because moisture prevents burning. When they're dry, there's no moisture to prevent them from burning.
  3. Oranges contain a natural acid.
  4. The simple reason is that the peels are not uniformly dry, nor are they uniformly thick, nor do they contain precisely the same amounts of citric oils. But then, no one ever suggested they were one of the world's great fuels!
