Is it ok to thrown away banana and orange peels and other left over fruit in the dirt?

I usually throw all of those when im done eating outside in my bushes and dirt area. I think its better than throwing it away in a trash bin, right? Won't the natual fruits dissolve in the dirt? Its not like im throwing away plastic or other harmful stuff outside.

  1. It's not harmfull, actually helpful to the soil. But it does bring ants.
  2. thats called composting, and its really great, especailly if you have a garden- the soil will be really rich. suggestions, though: -get some of that plastic fecncing stuff and fence off a small circle to throw the compost in -get eitiher grass clippings or leaves (and they're just starting to fall, so get raking) to bury the compost in so it won't attract bees/ants/flys etc
  3. They are biodegradable but if you throw away too many in the dirt, the earth around you won't be able to keep up with what your throwing away. It might not hurt the area but it won't look pretty and it will attract ants, flys and other scavengers who don't mind peels off fruits.
  4. It is okay to throw natural things like food and nuts on the ground. But it's better to throw it in the trash can because it will make the ground look dirty. But it's really not hurting the environment. It's helping the dirt. If you want to throw your food on the ground, I suggest compostnig. You can throw it in dirt, and it'll make the dirt healthier, and if you use composted dirt to plant tomatoes, or cucumbers or beans or whatever, theres a bigger chance that your food will grow much more. Good luck, and I hope this helped.
  5. It's really good actually. You may find that you have more insects, and maybe animals (if it is fresh) but it certainly won't harm anything. It 's quite helpful to the other plants and soil/ground.
  6. you must especially around plants it adds to the mulch and becomes compost , by throwing all organics into Nature ,you will be doing it a favor , On the other hand ,mixed in with other trash it ferments and cause 70% of the contamination that leeches into subterranean water supplies from the LANDFILLS
  7. Years ago I backpacked into Yosemite, to Waterwheel Falls. It is awesome to behold, the water gushing over the rocks and the shapes they create. I took off my socks and shoes and carefully worked my way out over the wet rock, so I could sit back against a rock wall and gaze downstream. Lo and behold, what did I find? An empty tuna can and orange peel. Since the philosophy of the trail is "pack it out" and "leave no trace," I packed it out. Orange peels take 6 months to 2 years to break down, depending on conditions. Banana peels take 10 days or more. Bottom line, you're trashing your own yard, and others. Please try to take a more responsible attitude. Even if the debris is in your own yard, it draws bugs that may irritate your neighbors. Set up a compost pile, but cover the peels with other debris so as not to draw so many nuisance insects.
  8. yes...it is fine to throw these types of organic material away outside...they will decompose.
