How cold is too cold for my INDOOR cats??
I have two indoor only cats and they seem to be getting colds lately and was wondering if the cold is affecting them. I live in an apartment and my boyfriend refuses to let me turn the heat on AT ALL so its cold 24/7. Can the fact that its so cold all the time affect them? I have to be under a blanket whenever I'm home or I'm freezing...

- anyting lower than 64 , they will snival
- if the'yre used to the indoors, anything below what the indoor temp is to them will be cold. Sounds like your bf is a little controlling. it's february for gosh's sakes, turn the heat on! forget what he says.
- Get a new boyfriend.
- If it's too cold for you, then it's too cold for your cat and vis versa.
- throw the boyfriend out - he sounds like a complete control freak! If you are comfortable, your cats will be comfortable. If they are getting colds, however, it may not be colds they are getting, but cat flu. Or they may have had cat flu before you got them and are having recurring symptoms. If they are not vaccinated, then get them vaccinated. And next time they are showing symptoms, take them to a vet ...
- Take my advice....BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF YOU'R HUSBAND WHO THE HELL DOES HE THING HE IZ WOMAN HAVE RIGHT !!!!
- Dump the controlling boyfriend and turn up the heat!
- WHY in GOD's name do you not have heat on in the winter time????? for the record cats love warmth.......when you do laundry they will cuddle in the clothes after they come out from the dryer or they lay in the direct sunlight that comes in the home it could be the cause I would call your vet & se what he/she says..
- Yes, low temperatures can cause cats to have sniffles, sneezes or colds, especially if they are used to more mild temperatures. If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for the kitties. Also, depending on where you live, there could be city by-laws that state your residence must be kept at a certain temperature during winter months. I know that here in Ottawa we have that law, it MUST be 15 degrees Celsius in any rented dwelling between the months of December and February. So tell your bf to stop being a controll freak, and turn your heat on. You should not have to hide under blankets to keep warm, and your poor kitties can't say" I'm cold".
- Can the fact that its cold affect them? What do you think? Does it affect you? I have no idea why you allow him to make the decision on what you can and cant do in your own apartment. Its FEBRUARY Im surprised you all dont have pneumonia
- They become cold just like you, and if you do not turn the heat on, they are being affected by the consequences just as you are. I live with my mom and we live in a huge apartment that is not insulated, which means the heater works harder to keep us warm, and I have to say, if she comes home from work and finds the heat off for ANY reason at all, she has a sh*tfit because she wants my cat and I warm and comfortable, not freezing. Id turn it on and say (*&^_)( him. You have not only your cats health to think about, but yours aswell.
- Of course the cold can effect your cats. If you have to sit under a blanket at all times, then its too cold for your cats and could probably give them the sniffles. Don't let your boyfriend control you, gently turn on the heat, its february. If he gives you a hard time, tell him your going to return his blackberry ( i saw your previous question where you bought him a blackberry for Valentines day) and use the money towards the electric bill. It is very disturbing that your boyfriend rather have you sit at home and freeze, then turn on the heat. This should be a RED FLAG, for some serious control issues down the road, when he tells you your not allowed to go out with your friends, use the telephone or leave your house? Be very cautious of what you are getting yourself into.
- Being cold all the time isn't good for anyone. I don't think it will hurt them but you may want to think about finding a less controlling boyfriend.
- They are too cold, non-domesticated cats are naturally desert type animals. If you need a blanket than it is too cold in the house. Set the heat on like 70. If you just need a long sleeve shirt than fine, but if you need to cuddle up in covers all the time than your freezing the poor fur balls. But it could also be they were sick already with a kitty cold or flu. Either way turn the heat on, your landlord will charge you for busted pipes if you don't use the heat.
