What dermatologist treatment should i get?

i was on accutane for 5 1/2 months and it cleared my skin up tremendously. but it left severe scarring from where the acne was the worst, and lots of discoloration and i still break out but it much small episodes. Please dont say proactiv or some over the counter treatment because im highly allergic to most of them. What kind of treatment can a dermatologist perform to improve my skin? a laser, peel, etc? thank you!

  1. You have had a bad time with this. Accutane can cause depression, so watch for signs of that. Acne can make you feel sad and loose confidence. I have had a lot of problems with 2 of my sons. The first was given a refrigerated cream that expires after 3 months and his went away. The 2nd one who has very sensitive skin, the same cream did not work. I went to the Natural P. Store and bought some natural products for acne and sensitive cream and it cleared up. Try a specialist in Dermatology for Acne, or a Plastic Surgeon for advise or his aestitician. Don't give up each individual maybe a little different and you will find the answer probably soon too.
  2. This is something you have to discuss with your dermo or plastic surgeon. They would be the best ones to advise you on what procedure. I had full facial laser done by a plastic surgeon, this past May. I didn't have acne scars, but two chicken pox marks (which were reduced, I still can notice them), I had a scar on my forehead (again it was reduced) discoloration (my skin tone is even now), rough icky looking skin (it's smooth) upper lip vertical wrinkles (totally gone), this horrible undereye thing (totally gone) and the dreaded crows feet (gone). There are skin types and colorings that take to the laser better than others...I have both of those traits. I opted for the laser because of the down time. Deep peels can sometimes mean several trips back for more treatment to obtain the best results. Laser is a one time deal. Trust me, you are not a pretty sight after laser. I am glad I only had to go though that once. I would suggest to go to plastic surgeon that specializes in facial. Their 'job' is to make you look your best .
  3. I'm glad to hear you are not on accutane anymore. NO females in child bearing years should take this drug. There has been much news about more side effects in the last month. No only does it raise cholestrol, but can cause poor vision and hearing problems that are permanent. If you go to the dermatologist, he will most likely put you on some precription drug. If you break out in small episodes, I would think you could control it with good hygiene and eating habits. Gycolic acid will help keep the pores unblocked by removing the top layer of dead skin. Actually, any type of alpha hydroxy will do that. you can get some OTC products with about an 8% acid. It will also help the discolored areas and soften the scars. Did you try 10% benzoyl peroxide on the problem areas?
