What do you do if your dog has a rash around his mouth?

My dog has this habit of rolling in the grass face first, and just recently, he's had this redness all along the top of the outside of his mouth, just beneath the nose. He has it on his chin and possibly around his eye. We think it might be chiggers from the grass. If it gets any worse, we are taking him to the vet. But in the mean time, what should we do to help relieve him of the itching? We gave him Benadryl and that seems to work. We'd rather give him anti-itch cream instead, but we think he might lick it off. Have any ideas?

1. Maybe aloe will work? Just a suggestion.
2. Take the dog to a vet? Ever thought about it?
3. Hmm.. take it to the vet it sounds like alergies or bug bites but just to make sure hope this worked !!!!! :)
4. Some dogs are prone to staff infections. Mine is and when he gets them it usually means a trip to the vet for antibiotics. Now when I see the slightest bit of red on him I put some Happy Jack's spray on him. I get it at my local pet supply store.
5. i had the same problem a few weeks a go. its most likely allergies. there are anti itch wipes at petco that dogs dont like the taste of, so they resist licking it off. works for pretty much any biting or irritation. id try that before going straight to the vet
