what are good remedies for...?

Migraines? I've suffered from them since age 6.... with time they've gotten worse. I HATE taking medications, specially pain killers. I've already become immune to most anti-inflammatory medications like motrin and Naproxen... and i refuse to take narcotics like Vicodin or Opiates like Percocet. I've taken them before when my migraines were ER worthy and got me a CT scan and a spinal tap... but I'm talking maybe once a year... For the last few years I've controlled them with caffeine... its the only thing that seems to help keep them at a manageable level... however, due to some new medical concerns, I've cut caffeine from my system, so my migraines are back worse than ever for now, dealing with withdrawals. Is there anything else i can do? Supplements that work? I already take a daily multivitamin and Omega3 supplements... But is there anything else out there that can help?? Any other home remedies to try?? PLEASE help me.. Cause life is unbearable right now... Thanks.. I do.. I drink a ton of water. I always have. Well over a gallon of water a day. :) and No.. i haven't tried that yet... but i'm really trying to avoid all caffeine if i can.. and i've done accupuncture and craniosacral and chiropractic and massage and all of those... I'm a massage therapist and i'm really into that kind of thing... the only problem is that my migraines are so severe that it just doesn't help... And i have no real onset of a migriane.. its just kinda always there... just sometimes its worse than other times...

  1. Drink Water water water Do you drink enough water?
  2. Although you have cut the caffeine from your system, have you tried or considered trying Cafergot? It's ergotamine and caffeine, and some migraine sufferers find it really helps. You take it as soon as your recognize you are developing a migraine, and quite often it can stop it happening. They believe it works directly with the receptors in the brain involved with migraines. It's not a pain killer in the sense that the opiates are, and if it didn't work and you got severe migraine pain, they could still give you something stronger if the need arose. You take it as you need it, up to six times a day to control a migraine - so it's not like you'd have to have a large amount of caffeine all the time. I have also know people have given acupuncture a whirl, though I don't know if it really worked for them or not.
  3. you might think this is crazy but if you can swim and are close to the coast try a dip in the ocean and yes put your head under while you swim do this of a morning if possible...
  4. I've had several people tell me that the herb feverfew is helpful. Feverfew is a memeber of the daisy family. You don't take it only when you have a mirgraine, it is a preventative to be taken every day. I didn't have much success with it but so many people have I feel it's worth trying for each individual. Also magnesium. I did see a difference in the frequency of my migraines after I started taking the magnesium supplements. I think I've read about a few new supplements that have both magnesium and fever few, worth checking out.
