Cat repellent (including citruses and orange peels) wont stop the cat from scratching my walls?
What will it take to get him to stop?? He HAS a scratching post. He has a carpeted one thats 4 feet and he also has a cardboard one, 4 feet. If he doesnt stop, I wont be able to keep him. My landlord is going to be pissed. Please someone suggest something? He's my buddy, and I cant rehome him. =( I'll tell you what, how about I rip put YOUR nails, and you tell me how that feels, ok? The answer is no. If your suggestion is declawing, please leave. I find that utterly cruel.

- get him declawed.
- get a spray bottle fill it with water and spry your kitty whenever it does this then say no very firmly hen take the cat away and put it in front of the cat scratch. when your kitty uses the cat scratch reward your kitty hehe hope that helps
- try putting those claw sheaths on his claws..they are glue on and plastic. or you can try double sided sticky tape. just because you gave him a post doesnt mean he'll go to it every time. you need to take him to it..put his claws on it and simulate scratching while praising him..do this every day a few times a day..eventually he'll learn to scratch there..but still may continue to do it on the walls.
- de clawing is an option also when you catch him scratching use a squirt gun and squirt him he will stop I know it sounds mean but you can train a cat with a squirt bottle or gun.
- carpet poles are yesterdays technology - that's why it's not working (and cats DO NOT like them) forgot the name of it = starts with an 's' and about 6-7 letters your local pet store should know what I am talking about have a great 2008!
- Try putting catnip spray on his scratching posts. I'm assuming you've tried every repellent spray you could find. If you haven't tried bitter apple, go with that and see if it works. Try using the Sticky Paws sheets they sell in pet stores - cats usually hate the feeling of them - but if it's all over the walls, that could get super expensive. I don't recommend declawing him, because that is a major surgery and is quite painful. It requires removing the toes to the first joint. Imagine yourself with only half your fingers and toes. There is also a product called SoftClaws...if all else fails give it a try. I have seen it work for lots of people. It's pretty easy to use and much cheaper than fixing walls. And speaking of fixing walls, if there's already damage, I would get some cement, and paint if needed, from your local hardware store and patch up as much as you can before the landlord sees it.
- You could try double sided sticky tape or try blocking the areas he's most attracted to so that he can't scratch there. And maybe get some more scratching posts so that he has lots of things he is allowed to scratch. If that doesn't work try soft paws nail caps. I'm glad you're not even considering declawing him. Do you have wallpaper? Maybe you could suggest to your landlord that you take down the wallpaper and paint the walls? Not many cats want to scratch painted walls. http://www.softpaws.com/
- Put some catnip on the carpet scratcher, or purchase a scratching post with sisal(rope) on it .You can get sisal rope at any hardware store a wrap it tightly on the scratcher you already have. Good luck.
