What can be done about my idiot neighbors who keep their dog outside in the freezing cold 24/7?

The dog looks healthy and fed, but he just sits there all day outside looking back at the house. They never give him any attention at all. He looks like a great dog and deserves a better house and better people than the dipsh*ts he's with now. It's freezing cold and snowy where I live. He has a thick coat, but still...it annoys the he11 out of me. WTF do people have dogs for if they just chain them up outside and ignore them??? I've mentioned a couple times to them in passing about the dog, but they are stupid idiots and don't give a sh*t. Can anything be done? Thanks.

  1. Call animal control or the police.
  2. CALL THE HUMANE SOCIETY AND REPORT ANIMAL ABUSE RIGHT AWAY
  3. Where I live it's illegal to keep your dog chained up outside for a certain number of hours or between certain hours of the day. Call animal control and/or your local ASPCA, and honestly, if it's REALLY cold, I'd personally call the police.
  4. If they provide shelter, food, and water....that is all they have to do. There is no law about attention. Just the basics. FYI....I have dealt with a few people that treat their dogs like this. It is amazing when their dogs end up like "running away" in the middle of the night. GET THE DRIFT!!!!!!
  5. Go to their house, and TELL THEM! Ask them why they think it's right for them to torture the poor animal like that. It's not right, and something should be done.
  6. you can call the aspca and report them. they will come and check the situation out. if he is well taken care of and can handle the weather they won't do anything. other than that there isn't too much you can do
  7. call the humane society and see what could be done. that poor dog needs some lovin` :(
  8. Makes you sick don't it??? And f*****g annoyed, especially as you can see this poor soul sitting in the cold! I'd ring the relevant authorities, an animal welfare charity or such like. We have the RSPCA here in England, i think you have something similar in the states? The neighbour shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, its a form of animal abuse to leave them out in the severe cold even though it appears to be well fed. Good luck, if they take the dog away i'm sure it'd be so grateful to you x
  9. Call the closest place that takes care of Animal Abuse. This is Animal Abuse, don't get me wrong. Good luck, oh, I feel so bad, Poor pup.
  10. Hi there Depends where you are, where I come from its a requirement to walk your dog for at least half an hour twice a day but I don't know a lot of people that do that :-) and I'm not sure anyone has been penalised for not meeting that requirement if all other needs have been met? The problem is that if the dog is well fed and healthy and has access to water and shelter you may find that there is little you can do about it other than maybe having a chat with them and offering to walk the dog for them and seeing if they would agree to that. Not an ideal solution but you'd feel better for having offered and who knows they may let you walk the dog and that way you know its getting the attention it deserves and you get to do the fun stuff with the dog. Cheers
  11. My brother had a neighbor who treated his dog like this. Eventually, when my brother moved to a new place... we stole the dog when we left. She turned out to be a great dog too ,once someone gave her some attention.
  12. Call the Animal Control in your town and if that doesn't work call the police department and they will call the animal controll officer. Many animal control officers only work part time. In most states all a dog needs is food, water and shelter. BUT by calling the Animal Control you alert them that there may be a problem. If the owners are idiots the dog may not be licenced or even vacinated let the ANimal control officer handle it.
  13. Well even though many people may consider it neglecting the dog, as long as shelter, food, water and vet care when needed are provided, there isn't much else that can be done. It is their dog and they are caring for just his basic needs no matter how wrong it may be.
  14. Sounds like my ex neighbours dogs! Cruel B*****ds! Report them to the RSPCA! There isn't really much else to do unfortunately! Animals don't have enough welfare laws. Good luck.
  15. Contact your local animal control and tell them that you suspect neglect. It's not technically cruelty, but it could be considered neglect. These situations are frustrating. Most people get a god thinking it will be fun and easy, but they take almost the same dedication and work that a child requires. they also take a lot of money. Good Luck and know that you are not alone in your frustrations.
  16. The first thing i would recommend to do is try to really explain to your neighbors your feelings about what they are doing to the dog. If they don't seem to take you seriously and keep the dog outside, call animal control and make a complaint. Usually if they feel that the owners are being abusive they will take the problem into their hands.
  17. http://dogsdeservebetter.com/ Go to this site. They can guide you on what to do. They have local representatives in many places around the country. Look for the closest one to you and contact them. There may be no legal way of saving the dog DDB does a great job at saving many dogs.
  18. Contact the city or the pound and maybe they can tell you what to do or who to call. You know that animals has rights too. Just find someone with strong feelings about animals rights.
  19. call animal control or the humane society ASAP!
  20. wtf is that kind of behavior from the owner....seriously i think you have to call the police.i think that dog deserves a better home
  21. I'm going to take the other side for once. It galls me when people jumps all over someone because of what they ASSUME. Some people have dogs that stay outside 24/7 for valid reasons that perhaps you might just not be aware of, and really isn't any of your business anyway. Some people keep their dogs outside specifically so that they will HAVE that thick coat that they wouldn't have if they stayed in a 70 degree house all the time. Unless you are home watching the dog 24/7 maybe the dog doesn't spend 24/7 outside, you just don't see when the dog is getting attention. Maybe it is while you are at work or school. Kinda like I considered the single mother that lives across the street some kind of low life, that is until she came home still in uniform one evening and I found out that she is an Air Force Brigadier General.
  22. Report them that animal cruelty and that can kill them
  23. Call the humane society or animal control asap.
