Can you make homemade anti scratch spray using orange peels and water and maybe something else?
What did you try exactly and did it work? Thanks oxo I'm looking for a homemade recipe that's safe to spray on furniture! Thx

- unsure about orange peels but if you dilute lemon with water and put it in a spray bottle they will leave that area clear as not only do they not like the smell or taste, it can kill them (hence why you dilute it to make it safe)
- You can also try double-sided sticky tape or regular tape folded back on itself. Cats don't like the feeling of the stickiness. I have also heard that tin-foil can be a deterrent. Good luck!
- Do you have a scratching post for the cat? I can't tell if this is your first cat, or what. I'm guessing you know that scratching is a natural behavior, and you have to give the cat an acceptable place to do that, before you can train it not to scratch on furniture, carpet, etc. Assuming that, the double-sided tape idea posted by another reader is a good one. As far as a spray, some cats will be repelled and some won't. I had a cat that actually licked vinegar off my fingers, as I was putting it on something I didn't want her to chew. So they are individuals, for sure. At any rate, the spray should just be a temporary measure while you train the cat to scratch in an acceptable spot. After the cat establishes a pattern of scratching in an acceptable spot, the spray won't be necessary. They are persistent creatures of habit. If you have a scratching post, or equivalent, is it upright, or flat on the floor? I'm trying to suggest that you get a post that lets the cat scratch in the same posture it does on the furniture, or whatever its using that you don't like. Again, they are individuals. They will show you what they like. You have to work with the individual preferences. While you're training, keep the cats nails trimmed. They do virtually NO damage even when they scratch on furniture, if their nails are trimmed. Is it possible that the cat knows NOT to scratch on the furniture, etc., but is trying to get your attention, to play, and is doing this because it knows it will get attention for bad behavior? My cats will behave this way, when I'm not giving them the attention they want, when they want it. They are smart, for sure. The solution to this is to play with them, or give them attention in some satisfying way so they don't have to misbehave to get attention. HOPE THAT HELPS.
