how does growth hormone injections work?

i've made some research that if your growth plate is still open, taking growth hormone injection can actually help you grow taller. So does it make you grow to just your full potential or maybe beyond that? and also some people said that messing with these without a doctor's care can be very dangerous, really? aren't these just growth hormones? i am a 18 yr old male who is only 5 ft 5 in. my mom is 5''1 and my dad is 5''7 i am not sure if i can even grow to my dad's height ...

1. well, you take injections everyday it puts artificial hormones into your bloodstream then you get tall by an inch every 6 months, worth it right? then you have constant headaches
2. um well i wouldn't take them at all i would rather be short then take those if u take them i heard that it makes u growth spurt to stop my mom works with doctors and they did say that taking them without a doctor's care is dangerous ask a doctor i know i don't make sense -lol im funny
3. im short too, but i wouldnt take those, if u take growth hormones, most likley u will get cancer = early death, all cancer is, is that the multiplying of cells is too fast for ur body, growth hormones speed up cell repro rate, and u get extra killing skin, also if u dont get cancer, you will get all abnormal growth diseases.
