Is my Landlord responsible for weatherstripping?
This is my first winter in my rental home, and I have discovered that there is little to no weatherstripping on ANY of the windows. Any time the wind blows (which is often) it is FREEZING in every room of the house. There are also HUGE gaps around the front and back doors that are not stripped. I called my landlord and left a voicemail requesting she get back to me- no response. I live in Arizona, and have tried looking up all the tenant laws, they say that she is responsible for making the house "fit and habitable"- I don't know if insulation and weatherstripping falls into this category or not. I only know I'm sick of running the heater 24/7 in the warmest state in the country because this place won't hold any warmth due to the massive gaps. Anyone have any insight?

- Put plastic on the windows.
- I'd guess that he's not responsible. All houses 'leak' air, and it's anybodys guess as to whether any situation is acceptable or un-acceptable. Since the roof isn't leaking, and the toilet is working, - then he's done his job. If you want to save money, - then doing the insulation yourself. Unless of course you don't pay for utilities, then it's on his nickel.
- Sorry, no. You'll have to do it yourself. She needs to be aware that you will be doing improvements on the house...in writing...read your lease. In most cases, they will allow you to deduct any improvements from your rent payments, it should be spelled out in the lease. Not the labor, just the supplies. Next time you call her, leave the message that you are doing just that...then write her a letter and keep a copy. Send her copies of the receipts after the job is done with your monthly payment. That should do it.
