Kitten being neglected, and I want to steal it? Help!?
My distant neighbor has a baby kitten aprox 4 months of age. They are neglecting it, and it isnt getting enough food. Basically its eating from the garbage outside, and begging neighbors for food. She even left it outside during a really bad snow storm-when the news insisted all animals be kept indoors because they will freeze to death. The kitten is elft outdoors 24/7, and it is not even fixed either. There are thousands of stray s beating on it all day.. I want to take the kitten, and give it away to someone who will care for it properly without letting them know it was me. Where we are they dont enforce the law about these types if crimes. In order for her to get in troubel she'd have to have like 20 of them in bad shape at the same time. I,e Hoarding them. Is is wrong? Is it my place to save this kitten? Or should I mind my own business? I let it inside to eat everynight now since I relized it doesnt eat on a regular basis. I cant leave the kitten in the house in the night though because I have a housecat that isnt to friendly with other kittys. My kitty is acting as if he likes the new kitten, but I dont want to chance it considering my cat is like 14lbs and the kitten being like 3-4lbs? The kitten has no tags, and is unfixed. As far as i'm concerned theres no way to prove ownership of the kitten anyways. Also the poor kitten ranks of cigarette smoke so bad. If the poor kitten smells this bad, imagine how their kids our living when there indoors! I have talked to the owner and she said that she doesnt allow the cats to come in doors. When I asked her how the kitten eats or drinks she replied well its been raining!

- Grab that kitty and find him a good home.
- Save the kitten. It is not wrong you are saving it's life.
- Honestly if they really dont care about approach them about and ask to take it off their hands they might be greatful
- get the kittens before they die this happened to me when an owner did not take care of there old cat then we took care of him
- Call animal control, have them trap it as a stray and send it to a shelter. Sounds like the owner won't even miss it. If it doesn't have tags, the owner will probably not be able to get it back. Or feed the cat and put it in a box and bring it to a shelter yourself, if they allow that. Call around and find out.
- Start feeding the cat while you look for someone who is willing to take it. Once you find that person tell your neighbors that you were telling a friend about this pretty kitten and they were interested in it. Would they be willing to part with it?
- Grab the kitten and run.
- set out a food dish right outside your door, when it comes up, take it. either keep it inside or take it to your humane society
- if you can then get the kitten and I hope that you can give it a good home.
- See if there's a chapter of the ASPCA in your area, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and see what they say. They might have some helpful suggestions. They might be able to hook the kitten up with someone who wants it and will care for it well. Bless you for being concerned for this helpless little kitten.
- YOU ARE NOT WRONG> thank God for people like you. My advice is to call the local police and ask them to direct you further. You should not mind your own business when there is an innocent victim involved. Good for you.
- hi, report this to the rspca or so, and tewll them, they will find out the people are neglecting it and will take it to the shelter, and you will be able to claim it, OR ask the neighbour how much they will take for the kitten.
- Well, although it's not yours and you could get in trouble if you were caught, I would feel the same way and wouldn't be able to stand thinking about a kitten being treated like that and I'd probably take it. Perhaps it's not actually their kitten, but either way, if you're positive it's not being cared for, take it before it dies (just don't give it to a shelter where they will euthanize it if it doesn't get a home). I'm sure a lot of people will say to mind your own business, but sometimes doing the right things means not minding your own business. Save the kitty!
- It is true that it is TOTALLY none of your business but if it is as desperate as you say it is then you should rescue the poor thing but don't get caught wait for the owner of the house to leave then get a neighborhood kid and say "hey want to make 20 bucks tell them to jump the fence and if the kitten really is outside all the time they should be able to rescue it.
- I say take the kitten. I had a friend who went through something very similar. Another friend of ours got a kitten. The trouble was...their dog was mauling it, and they just didn't take good care of it. They didn't buy it kitten food, it had to share with the dog. He was acting all listless and hiding all the time. My friend was really concerned about the kitten, and she asked them to take it to the vet. They agreed and then changed their minds. So when she came over to visit the next day, she took the kitten. She brought it to the vet. It needed medicine and shots. The vet had her get special food for the kitten and stuff to help it go to the bathroom because it was so constipated as well as dehydrated. They told her she saved that cat and strongly recommended she NOT take it back. She lost a friendship over it, but she says she doesn't regret saving that kitten one bit.
- Take it! Take it now! I have done this before with a puppy that was being abused by a bunch of kids. It was being kicked and thrown into puppy fights, and left out in the freezing cold in the middle of the night. I stole the dog. I got the dog late at night, and took her to our apartment. I had another dog too. Both my dog and the puppy were full black, no white. When I took them outside I was confronted by the boys they accused my of stealing her, and I told them that she was my dogs puppy. That was that never heard from again. You would get a good nights sleep if you take that cat to a good home :)
- PLEASE don't mind your own business. This woman has no business owning a pet - and if the local authorities won't do anything about it, we as animal lovers have a responsibility to animals that need our help. The poor thing is going to starve to death, and most certainly will get pregnant, adding to the unwanted cat population. I have 8 of my own, and they are all rescues and are all fixed...AND they all live indoors! Shame on that woman - Chicata25 to the rescue! Good luck! P.S. I volunteer at a cat rescue, and we hear these kinds of stories all the time - and take in the the "stolen" cats...
- you are right, i think you should catch the kitten and take it to the local vet and drop it of anonymously. then act like you don't know anything about it. but if there are mouse in the hood the might have put the cat out side to keep the rodents from coming in the house. cats/kittens are very smart
- I have taken in numbers of stray cats over the years. I would personally take this kitten in to my home and care for it until it was healthy enough for adoption. If I could not care for the kitten I would take it to a "No Kill" shelter. I highly recommend that you go ahead and take the kitten. Especially if the kitten is being mis-treated. The only way they could find you guilty of stealing this kitten is if the family can prove ownership of it. Which would mean they have to cough up vet bills, microchip papers, adoption papers, and so on. If they are otherwise good people, I do suggest you ask them to take the kitten off their hands. Good luck.
- If you would go and steal this kitten, it would be stealing the neighbors personal property, and that is against the law. The best thing to do is inform a local police officer, and then call the SPCA office near you. This would have to be done legally, or you could get in trouble. You might go to this neighbor and tell them that you need a kitten to love, and was wondering if they'd like to give it to you. It might work.
- Steal it now! Oh, I can't believe I'm supporting thievery, but in this case I'll be a thief with you!
- Please help that baby-not doing it would be the wrong thing. If you think you might like to keep it, you could try introducing it to your kitty slowly. You can put the kitten in a separate room with the door shut and they can still smell each other and see if they'll get used to each other. Gradually you can let the two be around each other when you are present or put the small kitty in a kennel or carrier and see how they interact. You didn't say the sex of the kitten but often a cat will accept a kitten of either sex because it's too young to be a threat. Be sure to give equal attention to both. Or just find the baby a good home and bless you for caring.
- Yes, save the kitty. It is unlikely that a mature cat will attack a kitten; cats aren't as big of as*&oles as people. We have saved several cats like that. If a person is not being responsable for his/her cat they have no right having one. People like that really make me made and I'm not a goofy spinster, I'm an old fat Vietnam vet.
- We have the same problem in my neighborhood if you cant have a cat at your house just feed it on your door step eventualy the cat will think it lives at your house thats what i did. there is about 3 cats that come and go. i live in wyo. and winter is very cold the cats seem to be just fine with it. one fluffy cat seems to like the cold and snow. dont worry cats are survivors. one thing you should do is catch it and have it spayed so that arent more homeless little kittys. good luck!!! hope the best. ps dont worry it is your business cats are everyones friend even if the so called owners arent friends
- i think u should take it but they may sue u 2 avoid the trouble just call ur non-emergency police department (311) and tell them the kitten is being neglected they will take care of it when they do u can ask if u can take them if u can take the poor little kitten
- If you are willing and able to provide a loving and safe home for the kitty, then i say GO FOR IT! That's how I usually acquire my pets. I save them from horrible people that don't deserve animals or children for that matter. Your older cat will eventually adapt. You might have some territorial issues, but it will become evident who the boss is between the two. It's either they love each other or they'll just tolerate each other's presence. Either way, they both love you.
- It is never wrong to do the right thing, but the truth though is for every decision you make you must count the cost. The owners do not sound as if they even care, but they may have kids who do. So I would just start caring for the kitty and if it comes up be honest with the person about the situation. Tell them you saw the kitty one night in the cold and it followed you home and it was too cold to leave out. You began to feed it and well it adopted you. Cats go to who feeds and loves them so this is not a stretch. If this were me, and I have been in your shoes, that kitty would be mine. I would find a way for your cat and the kitty to meet and greet. If they are acting like friends now that is a good sign. Can the kitty stay in the garage or maybe a utility room or bathroom at night while you are not able to supervise the two? I would only give the kitty away to someone I knew would take as good of care if not better than yourself. One way or the other the kitty would be taken care of, because otherwise I would not be able to sleep at night...Please, please do the right thing...just be prepared for the decision..you may end up having to keep the kitty yourself...
- call your local spca and say all the things your neighbour is doing and that you would like to take it in. and they will give you advice,if they don't come to get it,take it yourself next time it comes by your house.
- That is horrible. I would call the RSPCA or just steal the little thing and hope that you don't get caught! Its amazing how horrible some people can be to their pets.
- steal it
- Take the kitty and run! Save that little life!
- Do what is best for the kitten. Your neighbor obviously does not care for the poor kitty and will probably allow several days to go by before even noticing that they have not seen the kitten for a while. PLEASE take the kitten! God bless you. :)
- Toture the owner and make her feel bad. If you dont i will. I hate people that treat animals carelessly. Take the kitty. Keep it for a while and see how you're cat likes it. The kitty will grow really fast and then maybe they will get along. Trust me it will be worth it. You cant sit around and watch that cat be tortured and starved. Its your right as a humane person to take care of it. If she isnt going to and has no worry about it then she wouldnt mind if you took it. Do it. For the little kitty. It deserves better.
- Thats how I got my cat. I was friends with a girl and her sister's cat had kittens and she gave one to the neighbor. Well they did all the same things, no food, left him outside ect. So the sister stole the kitty back one night. I was at the house a few days later and the kitty would not leave me alone. So now he is mine...4 years later and I love him so much. I would take the kitten away and find a home for him.I have hearing about people who don't take care of thier pets.
- I would probably do the same thing in all honesty but that's telling you to steal. Do what you think is right..You already know what that is.
- I would take this cat to a no-kill animal shelter and just say I found it. It's your moral duty to rescue this helpless animal. If the local authorities aren't interested, then you must take the matter into your own hands, and take him to a shelter. I commend you for not just looking the other way and ignoring the plight of a helpless creature. You are this kitty's guardian angel.
- I would call animal control it is abuse. If you decide to take the cat before you bring it near your cat you have to get it checked for feline lukemia and aids, or you are putting your pet at risk. It is a sad thing when owners dont take responsibility for a life. I was in the flood of the delaware river and one owner left there cat in the house as the river was overflowing its banks I heward it hollowing all night. Went down to save him but the river was already engulfing the house. But by the grace of God he made it went down when the river went down the cat was muddy and wet but alive. The owners left him there in a bathroom so it wasnt like they could not find him. Some folks should be ashamed of themselves not to mention the up to 15 cats I was feeding for all the strays after the flood. They keep reproducing. Sad situation. Help the cat out report the person.
- As a cat lover myself, I must say to you, take the kitten. PLEASE TAKE HER INTO SAFETY as soon as you can. she needs warmth, good kitten food (with a bit of wet food mixed in to make it easily palatable and digestable), fresh water and no violence from other cats. She's probably very shy and withdrawn by now, but it is not too late, she's just a kitten, and therefore a bit more resilient. That's only if she has steady security and love from either you or whomever you choose for her. good luck and give her a tickle for me.
- just take the cat to shelter and not tell them they will miss it but won't know what happened.
