My house is not heating properly...??

Now thats it's getting pretty cold, I've noticed that there is hardly any heat coming through the vents in every room of my new house except for the dining room. The master bedroom is extremely freezing cold 24/7. This is a normal sized 1 story house, built in 1949 according to the last owner(but has been recently modernized), and all of the vents are open. During the Summer while the a/c was running I didnt notice a problem with any of the rooms being hot..any tips on what I can check on or do?? Please be specific if it requires any hands on activities. Thanks

  1. Check the dampers in the heat ducts. The ducts that supply heat to your rooms should each have a damper, which is a way to adjust the air flow to each room. The ducts that have to push air the farthest should be more open than the ones closest to the furnace. It can take some trial an error to find what works best.
  2. i guess you can check the dampers on the registers in the rooms. but if you didn't change them during cooling season then what the othger guy said doesn't make sense and you may have another problem. check your airflow. Are your filters clean? is your blower operating properly? In heating your blower speed is NORMALLY slower to that of air conditioning. turn the fan switch on your thermostat to ON and see if the airflow to all the registers are the same. Is your furnace a downflow or an upflow? is it one story with or without a basement? i hope this gives you some ideas
  3. There is an lot of information missing from your inquiry. Instead of guessing what equipment you have, how your equipment is configured, and what controls you have, it might be better to talk this problem out ... over the phone. You are invited to go to my web site www.furnaceman.com, and using the phone number listed there, call me tomorrow morning (thanksgiving day) between the hours of 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. Eastern Time Zone. There will be no charge for this call (you pay any long distance), we might very well resolve this problem on the phone.
